Long Past Halloween...and Study Abroad Fair'07

Halloween? Long over...but this blog have been back-dated for a long time cos i have been playing too much in hk till no time to update it...now spending some time to maintain it...

31 oct 07, we spent our halloween at LKF...again...cos most parties wld be at LKF...it's super duper crowded...juz like visiting chinatown during cny. it's with the usual gp...but this time a bigger gp cos the other singaporeans joined us... like sophia, sandra, ho yin and my brother...who visited me with ah ma... halloween is more happening in HK...everyone on the streets dress up...be it the young or old...really nice...cos they're daring enuff to be different...the young ones would dress like cinderalla...how sweet is that...pretty little ones...After LKF, we headed down to yi gei for supper...

15 Nov 07 - HKU Study Abroad Fair...the singaporeans and japanese shared a booth to promote our universities...to attract ppl to our booth, we dressed according to different races...juz like the racial harmony day in our pri school days...and we have our smu ambassador, Reuben Ong, our MC to introduce singapore to the rest of the ppl...

We prepared some agar agar and kaya toast for ppl to try some sg food...we wld loved to prepare more good stuffs like chicken curry, popiah, kacang puteh...but got budget...all too expensive...Overall..we had fun esp wking in a gp and preparing all the stuffs tgr...look at the pics and u'll noe...

i have been home for several days...still feeling disoriented...haven't really settle down...bags still unpack...

I felt so super duper sad when i had to leave HK...Tears keep rolling down whenever i think of the people i had to leave behind and the memories that we once shared...of course i know we will meet one day but it will never be the same as what we've experienced in HK...

I miss HK..miss the Sassoon girls, miss the freezing cold weather, miss all my friends there....

It has been a long time since i updated my blog...sorry...have been so bz with pjts and exams...now am a free person once again!!! Lotsa happenings for the past few mths...me gng to compile into a single entry and put lots of pics...

26/9/07 Victoria Peak & Madame Tussauds
Being a public holiday..we decided to go central and have lunch at Lan Fong Yuen. Brought them to try the famous ji ding mian and milk tea. After lunch...we took a walk along central & took pics along the way...posing everywhere as we headed to the tram station to get to the Peak.

Purpose for visitng the peak is to see SUNSET. At the same time, we oso visited Madame Tussauds; a wax museum in hk...its definitely not as good as the one in vegas...but still worth a visit!

7/10/07 Trekking in Chi Wan
Another trip with the Ramblers...this time round, i jio cheryl, ivan and desiree with me..carol can't go cos she doesn't have shoes...she only has her sandals, boots and slippers...it was a tiring trek that lasts for 5hrs and it's so hot! and guess wat...there were ppl treakking in their jeans...omg...how to??? i already sweat so much wearing shorts...not to mention anything long...

Though tiring, the trek up the hill is definitely worthwhile...great scenary awaits ahead of us!

23/10/07 Happy Birthday Cheryl,Pauline and Valerie

We planned a surprise party for the cheryl,pauline and valerie. Had games, decorated wei lun hall's rooftop and did a sketchbook for cheryl, the book is filled with all our pics...and things we wanna tell her! the 3 of them were so surprised...meaning our party is a success...

We made cheryl and pauline go to the 1st floor to look for clues and they have to get all them hidden in the rooms before they can find us at the rooftop...

Beijing Trip 13/10/07 to 17/10/07

The 5 of us (Sophia, Steven, Cheryl, Ivan and me) went to Beijing during our reading week. It was a last minute decision and so we paid a little more for the air tix. I din noe that there is this place in mongkok that has 4 floors filled with travel agencies...so we went to source for best bargains...but nothing good...

We went for a 5-day trip and visited places like Great Wall, Summer Palace, Forbidden City, Tianamen, Tiantan, Wanfujing shopping district...Tried the famous peking duck...and other street food! Overall the experience was good...juz that i din like the ppl there....so rude and kept pushing us...We're supposed to travel on budget; living in a hostel which was clean and safe in a good location and took public buses all over...but for food wise, we spent a little more...to pamper ourselves! I esp like this place in Beijing...called Hou Hai. A place similar to Clarke Quay, but many times nicer...we're able to see our reflection fr the river...and the whole stretch of bars are lined along this river...which makes this place so peaceful and relaxing...

Wei Lun Fest

The first week of November is Wei Lun Fest...our hall fest! We have Ah Han who'll represent our floor to compete with the other gals...and guess wat? She Won!!! so she's our hall flower...she made our 11th floor Tweety Sq proud!

Wei Lun Fest is alot of fun....totally enjoyed myself...we have a whole week of activities..like eating competition, tug of war and "rush floor" to show the guys' floor our performances....and promote our Ah Han...haha...took alot of pics...

We practised our cutesy dance choreographed by Christy...easy dance to master...so we put up this performace on the last day of the fest...every floor's performance is fantastic...they have alot of creativity...i esp like 6th, 12th and 14th floor's performance!

Ocean Park Halloween Bash

We had tix for the night admission (i.e. from 5.30 to 12 midnight)...all thanks to jiahe for getting us the cheaper tix. Ocean Park was crowded...filled with many many ppl. But we din have to wait a long time to get inside the haunted houses...We managed to cover most of the ghost houses...it was pretty scary, as least for me, belonging to the weakest link. Who cares to join me?

Imagine us in a straight line, forming a "too-too" train...walking straight into the houses, sceaming like mad...esp me...screaming when i first stepped into the hse...super scared...tried to shut my eyes and ears up so i can't see the ghosts and no one can whisper anything to me! We were so frightened till we got stucked onto the ground, the guys got to keep pulling us from the front and pushing us from the back! haha! We had a strategic formation, having guys at the front & back of us...but the gals were still scared, except for desiree...brave gal! I muz apologised to those whom i've held too tight and accidentally hurt them, esp carol... and cheryl...held onto their hands so tightly...till it turned red...

The streets were scary as well..."ghostly" ppl would jump up and scare the wits out of us. Those ppl tend to target gals....cos we're more timid, i think. Ohh ya...cable car ride up the hill was fantastic..we had a good view of everything, the sea, themepark..

Overall conclusion is that...its fun but scary...

China National Day

Today is a Public Holiday again...and we're enjoying it. We went to try the australian milk pudding at Jordan Road...but it sux and it sux big time...super awlful...the one at Macau tastes much betta...

After food, we walked to Museum of the Art around TST to find a good spot to watch fireworks. I was shocked to see the place filled with so many ppl at 4pm when the fireworks only starts at 9.15pm. We found a centralised spot and sat to chat and play games till 9.15pm. It was a long long wait... longest time i waited to see fireworks...and i told myself, it'd betta be good...

Yesterday is not my day. I forgot to bring my passport when i reach the ferry terminal. Thanks to ho yin who changed the ferry timing and went back with me to collet it. I tin i damn blur and am oso in a rush as i came back fr poyi's place and left straigt for macau.

But i still managed to make it to MACAU. This is one place you muz visit when you're in HK. Macau is a place with alot of historical sites.

Places of Interest: Churches -- St. Dominic's Church, St. Augustine's Church, Holy House of Mercy and St. Lawrence's Church.

Others: Guia Fortress, St. Augustine's Square (filming site of Goong), Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul's and the newest casino in town: The Venetian.

While waiting for the rest to meet us, ho yin brought me to this place to have milk pudding, tastes like beancurd...but with milk flavour. It's damn nice. No whr i tasted such nice milky stuff... will strongly recommend all of u there. I went there to get some portuguese egg tarts...damn good...costs bout 6hk each.

We went to have portuguese dinner, i like it...esp the curry liked chicken...maybe i missed curry too much...over here, the curry isn't spicy at all

After dinner, we headed to watch fireworks...it's betta in sg in any way. Thereafter, we quickly rush to the ferry terminal to change our tix, cos the guys wanna gamble...and they won at least a few hundred sg dollars. They gambled till 2plus, and we missed our ferry back so we took the 4am ferry. I din expect that we would spent such a long day in macau but it was fun!

Day out with Poyi

I finally get to meet poyi after weeks in HK. We went shopping at kwai fong and had dinner there too. We bought alot of things and get a really cheap cheap pair of shoes. Kwai Fong is somehow like mongkok ctr and its bigger but the stuffs are not as cheap. We ate some meat balls outside the MTR and tried nice fish soup, dunno wat's known as in cantonese?

After Kwai Fong, we went to Grandville St b'cos poyi want to get her pants, unfortunately, it was closed. But we still shopped around there and i din even noe i missed my last bus. I can't take a cab back bcos it wld cost alot since i've to cross the sea and ferries dun operate till tat late, so i've got no choice but to stay over at Poyi's hse. It's pretty near to TST, taxi fare only costs less than 20hkd.

Her hse is small and cozy...like her place. Will stay over more often if she doesn't mind...and i tin she wun mind...rite, poyi?

Since we don't have sch the nxt day, we went to victoria park. I thought that it'll be a happening place but no. So disappointing, we din catch any performances, din carry any lanterns. We juz took some fotos and had dessert before leaving causeway bay.

Sai Kung - Outdoor Adventure Club (22/9 and 23/9)

Sophia and me signed up for this camp, which includes hiking, backwood cooking, campfire activities. We paid HKD140, I tot it was worth it! It takes about 2hrs to reach our west campsite. I was disappointed at first cos i expected the campsite to face the sea but NO, it's juz a open field.

We ate canned luncheon meat, pork cubes, peanut butter, jam and bread for lunch. It sounds pathetic but we managed to fill ourselves. We pitched our tents and i tin we din do a very good job cos it was flooded in the morning when it rained heavily the night before and i was like all wet but din bother to wake up.

During the camp, we played a game like amazing race where we have to complete tasks at 7 stations around the island. Some activities were fun, esp coming out with the 2 cheers in cantonese. And our Group came in 1st!!!

Campfire songs were like from my sec sch camps. I felt young again for once.

Backwood cooking was fun - we had to make 3 diff food (i.e. pizza, roast chicken, potatoes) and judges will give comments and decide on the winning gp. Our pizza was like burnt at the bottom, tin the crust too thin but looked nice fr the top.

This place is really close to nature. During our walks, we can find cows walking freely and cows came inside the campsite as well...was afraid if they come too near us when sleeping.

Made some really good frens...met junmin and lynn from nus and we singaporeans always like to do extraordinary things...so we did the "smu" jump...look at the pics, junmin & lynn really have nice jumps! but sophia and mine wasn't too bad.

This experience forms part of my Good Memories and will always stay with me for life! I'm Loving it!

Wei Lun Hall - High Table Dinner

19 Sep 2007 is the 1st high table dinner i attended. The dinner is a formal function attended by all students living in the hall.

Dresscode: only black dress and black shoes

They're pretty strict about the dresscode. Not nice for us to wear tube dress, we have to dress decently, as told by my floorhead. so we gals had a hard time looking for black dresses! looking for one that is not too "orbit".

and what shocked me the most is the Wei Lun Hall Song. My goodness, they're so united. Alhough the song is bout dragons and cope cope cope, hope, hope, hope, soar soar soar...they sang it really nicely.

After dinner, we attended the EGM and it took really long long time to end. There was speech by the warden and all of the freshmen and exchange students did a self intro. The whole thing ended bout 11 plus. of course, after everything, we took some nice pics with nice poses!

WUS Gourmet Amazing Race!

This Gourmet Race is organised by the World University Service. This is my very 1st activity in school and i believe there'll be more to come!

We were into groups of 10 and played some ice-breaking games before race starts. My gp had a mixture of students form mainland, hk, states and me singapore. Btw, i was surprised when our gp has a gp dad and gp mum, and they're the leaders for our gp. But y are they known as gp daddy and mummy? Anyway, this whole race is about tasting the world of delicacy in HK. Along the way, we were given clues and we had to complete tasks in order to proceed. One of the tasks is to know why the salted fishes' head were covered with paper when we are at the seafood st...and had to play some games along the way.

We tried HK style egg waffles, curry fish balls, egg tarts, desserts and you ji ding noodles. The food was good, at least i would noe whr to go for good food!

During this race, i made new frens; locals & exchange students. It was fun hanging out with them and of course i oso got to know more bout their cultures. The locals have oso introduced me to a number of new places and telling me the history of it...

On a Sunday Evening, we had steamboat for dinner, with almost all singaporeans. Felt homely for that moment! We had dinner at starr hall, which is sophia's, sandra's and jiahe's hall. Dinner was good. Look at the food we have, got so many diff types of balls. My fav is the cheese ball, cheese juz flows right into my mouth...shiok!

This our 2nd island trip tgr...this place is betta than lantau. seafood & din sum are cheap. this place has no vehicles / bikes...their only form of tpt is bicycles! It's like a small village.

We went to the mini great wall of china...scenic view from there. There are nice beaches too, saw this guy doing this sport, but dunno wat it's known as? very interesting and fun. The wind is so strong that he can wakeboard. I believe linus will like this sport.

On a Dragonboat

After walking for the whole afternoon, we rented a bicycle and finish exploring the island. We went to the priates' cave, the place is cool. There was this uncle selling torches brought us into the cave and told us the history of the cave. But i din understand a word he was saying, it's all in cantonese. In the cave was pitch black and i dun even noe if there were some kinds of animals inside. So tat's the thrill of it!

The whole gp of us went clubbing last nite - and it's my 1st time clubbing in hk. Lan Kwai Fong is pretty near our sch...juz a short bus ride away! Went with the whole gp of exchange students...I felt the clubs wasn't as gd as those in sg...but still enjoyed it. It was the 1st time i danced non-stop...and felt damn tired...carol, pauline, desiree can really dance...tons of energy..not feeling tired after hrs...admire them!

I am unhappy cos i have a 5 day wk for 3 modules...can't stand it...i m goin to sch for 1-2 hrs a day...wasting my money and time...it's not cheap to travel to sch...bout S$1 for 2-3 stops. I can walk but lazy to..it will take bout 30 mins.

so now, i am trying to change it to a 3-day wk...and save the other 2days for myself. The add/drop system here is stupid...it's not updated automatically and it doesn't tell u how many vacancies are there in each class. so every now and then gotto check if can add the avail class...added some classes but it's TN=not approved...gotto drop and add again...damn troublesome! Tried calling the faculty but it doesn't help, telling me she'll only give me a place when everyone finalize the course selection. so as of now, juz attend the 5day wk 1st.

ohh ya...we have a floor orientation for 2 weeks...but carol and I only attended 1 day...which is the steamboat dinner...we din play games with them. sounds quite anti-social. but they din invite us as well and during the dinner, we were so awkward...ppl were whispering things bout us...hope we are wrong. It 's the worse dinner i have ever been! but i believe things will get better!

Yeah...met up with this gal from my floor...happens to be a singaporean too...Her name is Carol. She's a typical sociology student from NUS. Let me describe her: Fun, Extrovert, Outspoken, Good Cook, Strong, Shopping Queen and Pretty. Through her, i get to know Sarah, Cheryl and Pauline, who are the other exchange students. Now, i noe i wun be bored for the nxt 4 mths...

Carol brought me to arygle centre at mongkok to shop...gd place for gals...3 levels of clothes and bags and shoes... all for ladies. it's cheap...and tat's the place poyi mentioned. Can easily get a top for S$8-10. Shoes are oso bout that price...as for bags...slightly costly...but still cheap compared to Sg prices...it's bout S$20 for those bags that they sell in far east.

After arygle centre...went to fa yuen st...cheaper than arygle...we went crazy juz on shopping alone...

i only have 1 class today...and the lecturer is weird and nasty....embarrasses students in front of the whole lect gp. He is trying to scare us, i guessed. But still like his lect...cos it's interactive...

I tin the classes here are not too difficult...not as many readings as in ntu, so it means that i'll have more time to shop.

The locals here are nice...very friendly. so i din have any problems mixing with them..the only thing is that i dun understand cantonese.

But i have enrolled for the canton class for foreign students...hopes it helps.

Day 7 - Sheung Wan

School is starting tmr... we din wan to cum back late...so decided to explore the places near sch...

Took a trolley bus down to sheung wan...we din noe whr to stop so we juz enjoy the bus ride all the way till Central...ohhh ya...trolley bus is cheap...only hkd2..worth the ride...

Good Yun Tun...prawns are crunchy dun be taken by sophia's looks...it's nicetot it was a real station till i went closer...station of branded goods!
Had dinner at this yun tun place...Food was ok...after that we went to have some cooling herbal tea and gui ling gao. Heeded my mum's advice, drank some herbal tea...in case i fall sick.

From there...took a trolley bus back to hall and along the way, saw the jockey club, sometin like the sg turf club...we'll be there to watch some races some day.

Day 5 & 6- Shopping...Kowloon Tour...

We went shopping every single day ever since we arrived. Shopping is good...made us walk alot and burn our calories...but very soon, we'll be broke! Haha :)

So we decided to sign up for hk island tour that covers aberdeen, repulse bay, stanley mkt, murray hse etc... but guess wat... we got cheated cos they arranged us to go for another tour, which is the kowloon tour...and it's not good. Brought us to bird garden at Yuen Po St, which is like those in singapore, the ah peks will sit by the coffee shops and hang their birds on the top & watch them sing??? Then nxt, we went to wetland park...oso lousy... not as good as sungei buloh nature reserve...very terrible...The best was the wong tai sin temple cos we went to draw lots...fun...last stop was hk museum of history was good as well cos from there we found out more bout hk cultures and history. This tour is mainly made up of exchange students...and found out tat quite alot of singaporeans studying in hku as well.Cool...

After the whole tour, as usual....went shopping again...went to shop at grandville street @ TST recommended by the guide...stuffs are cheap and qty looks not bad either.

After all the shopping...we went up to the Peak, the place is so crowded, waited some time for the tram BUT it's all worth it!!! Great Views and Scenary...definitely a place worth to go...the lights in hk are juz so beautiful...and they have good restaurants but i tin it wld be exp... nvm...dear, I bring u there the nxt time and u give me a treat :)

Day 4 - Lantau Island

Yeah! YUM CHA TIME!!!

Enuff of shopping!!!

We decided to get up early for yum cha...so we went to Maxim's Palace, which took us bout 45 mins to find the place, we walked round and round the bldgs, juz couldn't find the place. Do we really have such bad sense of directions? Finally found it and went for dim sum. The place looks pretty famous cos when it's lunch time, there's a long queue outside. Dim sum was not bad and we paid about S$20 per pax with juz a few dishes... but tot it was worthwhile cos it has got a nice view facing the sea. Tat's y it so exp, i think.

Finish off with yum cha, we headed to central pier 6 to take a ferry ride to Mui Wo (i.e. Lantau Island). Ferry ride was good, with air-con and took bout 30-45mins to get there, smooth-sailing ride...no motion-sickness pills needed. After reaching Mui Wo, we took bus no.2 to the Giant Buddha...the ride up and down was terrible...bumpy....

There we saw the tallest, outdoor, seated bronze Buddha which sits atop Ngong Ping plateau amid the spectacular mountain scenery of Lantau Island. Took several pics there and oso climb the 268 steps to reach the platform where the Buddha is seated. After all the training in sch...climbing so many steps everyday, these 268 steps are nothing to us... tat's y i often say we'll lose calories in hk. From the Giant Buddha, we had a free vegetarian meal, the food tastes strange, esp the soya beancurd, seems like they added almond inside, which i hated alot...but still finishes up everything since in temple, i felt that we shouldn't waste food!

At the Po Lin Monastery, we walked around the temples and heard the monks chanting... We thought it was recorded but it's live. I seriously wonder how long they chant everyday? It really take alot of perserverance and determination to be one.

Down from Giant Buddha, we took a bus to the MTR station on Mui Wo itself, there is a factory outlet shopping centre. Most of the sports stuff are cheaper than sg, can buy!

Day 3 Mongkok

We treasure the days we had before sch starts on the 3rd of sep. We are afraid got no time to travel, no time to meet, can't shop together...so we make full use of the time now to do all the things we want.

As usual, we had lunch, and I tried their milk tea for the 1st time, tastes betta than sg cos it's thick, however, tastes bitter too. Everytime, we stepped into the restaurant, the 3 of us will stare at the menu as thou we haven't seen one before. It's not tat the menu is special but we juz can't read the chinese words, so we usually ordered something we dun even noe what's like. The food here is not very exp, and usually costs bout S$6plus for a meal and it's quite a big portion!

We went to mongkok today and the stuffs are indeed cheaper here compared to tsim sha tsui and kowloon, which are the upper-class areas. And poyi told me that the 2 good shopping places in mongkok are fai yuen street and mongkok city centre. Haven't been there yet, will try to find the places nxt week.

We passed by this shop tat sells paper like decorations, quite nice and it's not cheap cos alot of time and effort is put into doing it. One can cost about S$100plus... For me, S$100 is exp cos i won't spent money on handicraft. I especially like the pinochio, which i took, cos of its long and pointed noseWhile walking, we oso saw this mahjong house, looks grand with the lighting... din noe that such places exist so openly... i supposed it's legal in hk. At times, we were so tired that we felt like catching a movie juz lazing in a cool place, and we asked the price, it was like S$13, which we tot was exp for a movie on a weekday nite. Eventually, we did not watch any show, maybe nxt time we would, if there are good shows around.

Day 2 here the shopping starts...

Being the 2nd day in HK, i am so excited about checking out this place... where are the good places for food, cheap bargains, nearest supermarket etc...

Sophia and me went to open a hsbc a/c in sch as we brought all the cash with us...come to think of it, it was dangerous to carry so much cash with us! After banking, i went to sop's starr hall to enjoy the seaview from her room, so much betta than mine. We had lunch at ho tim's hall and tot the food was good, but the locals felt otherwise. Lunch was a simple fare...nothing fantastic, juz 3 dishes with rice... the food is saltish.

We went touring kowloon and tsim sha tsui tat nite, walking along the streets and njoying the lights that made the city so much livelier... took alot of pics, we always had our cameras on hand and ready to take snap shots... we headed to the avunue of stars...it's like the hollywood walk of fame in LA, just that the palm prints belong to asian stars like andy lau, maggie cheung...over there, there's a show known as the Symphony of the Night, something like the laser lights show in sg. Unfortunately, we missed the show but will be back to catch it.

Walk, walk, and walk, tired from all the walking for the whole day, we decided to have some dessert at Xu Liu Shan, ate mango ice-cream with pomelo, very nice. After a short rest, we chiong again...this time at temple street, went hunting for good bargains...

Hello...Aloha...Welcome to my blog...

was lazy to set up one cos need to maintain and update but still decided to do so as i want to update everyone in sg especially my family and linus about my happenings in HK and of course i want to remember all the beautiful memories i have here...

First thing in the morning, i met sophia and sandra to check in and there we go...to HK. Arrived in HK at 1.15pm, and waited for steven who is oso a nbs student until 2 plus to take the coach to our halls. While waiting, we took plenty of pics in the airport. I was full of hopes when i was on my way to the hall, thought there would be a seaview at least. However, it wasn't as good....the hall is old, rooms stuffy, toilets especially the shower rooms are small, room views are bad...look at the pics and u'll noe wat i am toking about. However, the consolation is that, there are some cute guys living under the same roof...haha :)

After checking into the hall, Hannah (my buddy) brought me to HKU to settle the school stuffs...first, we went to 7th floor meng wah complex to confirm the registration of subjects, brief us about the add/drop and nxt to global lounge to get the registration documents. It was all in a rush cos we arrive sch late and only left with an hour to clear all the stuffs. and it was so tiring cos the school is like vertically up on top, everywhere was steps and i had to climb so many steps to get to a place, wouldn't i lose alot of calories? I hope so... thought NTU was bad... however, HKU is worse, no wonder the hongkongers are so slim...din really see a fat person walking...

School stuffs was done....Lorraine ( Sophia's buddy) brought us to a chinese fast food place for dinner, located somewhr in the western district near our sch. But we din noe how to get back, so eventually took a cab. The weather was bad...raining heavily and hot sun came nxt...

That would be all for the day...
